26/01/2010

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 14 teams have confirmed participation in the 15th edition Le Tour de Langkawi 2010 (LTDL), which will take place from the 1st to 7th March.

Sports Ministry Secretary General, Datuk Mohd Yasin Mohd Salleh in a statement today, said the only Pro Continental team which has already confirmed participation is ISD-Neri, their second time in LTDL.

"Three National teams are from Malaysia, Kazakhstan and South Africa while the other 10 are Continental teams," he said.

Besides Australian Continental team; Drapac Porsche, other Continental teams that will enliven the 15th Edition of LTDL are Tabriz Petrochemical Cycling Team (Iran), Seoul Cycling (South Korea), Marco Polo Cycling Team (China), Aisan Racing Team (Japan), Max Success Sport Racing Team (China), Geumsan Ginseng Asia (South Korea), Azad University (Iran), Giant Asia Racing Team (Taiwan) and Malaysia registered team, LeTua Cycling Team.

Datuk Mohd Yasin said,"KBS and the organizing committee have identified other team’s application and will decide the remaining teams that will compete in LTDL soon."

"We also believe that ISD-Neri, which ranked 13th overall last year, will be more competitive after experiencing the hardships of racing under extreme hot and humid weather in Malaysia," said Datuk Mohd Yasin.

Continental teams such as Drapac Porsche, Tabriz Petrochemical, Seoul Cycling, Marco Polo, Aisan Racing Team, Azad University, Giant Asia and LeTua are teams that regularly take part in Malaysia and they are expected to give a strong challenge against their European counterpart.

"We would also like to welcome new teams from China, Max Success Sport and Geumsan Ginseng Asia from South Korea appearing for the first time in Malaysia and LTDL. We are confident with the presence of these teams, LTDL will be lively and intense," he added.

Malaysian sprinter Anuar Manan will be donning the jersey colour of his new team, Geumsan Ginseng this time along with his LTDL 2008 Asian Champion teammate Shinichi Fukushima. They are a big contest for the Asian Classification and will put up a great performance this year.

Other Malaysian cyclists riding for Continental Teams competing in LTDL 2010 are Adiq Othman (Drapac Porsche), while Loh Sea Keong and Anuawar Ahmad Haidar will ride for Marco Polo Cycling Team.

The 15th edition of the UCI (Hors Category) stage race will take place from Kota Bharu - Kuala Berang (174.5km); Kuala Terengganu - Chukai (182.3km); Pekan - Mersing (145.6km); Mersin-Parit Sulong (163.5km); Muar - Port Dickson (116.9km) Putrajaya - Genting Highlands (102.8km) and Kuala Kubu Baru - Dataran Merdeka (133.7km), covering a total distance of 1019.3km.
